This. It really depends on who is watching it. The audience before didn't have what we have now, the Internet. It's easy to download and stream movies and critique them.
People before don't have this privilege so they only rely on cinemas. The big thing here is that in our generation, we can watch whatever the **** we like and I'm pretty sure a horror buff watched hundreds of horror films to be scared anymore.
Honestly, some of the classic horror films didn't scare me although I still haven't watched the original Exorcist.
But in all honesty, if they stop going over the top with special effects, horror movies will be effective. The corny ass SFX most of the time ruin what should be a great horror flick.
