I mean back in the 70's people were effected by The Exorcist, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre nowadays teenagers especially would laugh at The Exorcist

Theyre just played out. Most of the things that are meant to be shocking today have been seen a million times by viewers so it loses the feeling

The movies of the previous century had a more raw feeling to it, as opposed to a Hollywood blockbuster thriller where it may not be as organic.

There's no shock value anymore with horror films. At least, to me there isn't.

Most of the horror movies today don't take any risks, which is why those older movies were so successful at being scary. It wasn't done before. Also, they seem to put more focus on making it gory and violent and forgets about any sort of suspense.

Eh, The Exorcist isn't scary. The original Texas is, though. Horror just had a more raw feeling back then imo. That plus we've been so desensitized these days.

My aunt read the book that The Exorcist is based on and she got so scared that she went into convulsions and had to be taken to the hospital

Personally movies don't scare me because I've taken media classes and I've seen how the special effects are made and edited.

Because of horror series like Saw that focuses on the Gore factor, rather than actual mental, traumatic horror that will **** you up for weeks. Horror is really a psychological thing.. it's not really meant to be about shock factor and the rest of these corny movies that rely on blood to scare it's audience.

Because people are desensitized.


This is a real problem today. As a child those movies did scare me as a kid. But as you get older you know more. People back then didn't see the things we are accustomed to seeing now.

I talked with my friend about it, But we watched so many horror movies that your not gonna be scared after a while.
Also most jump moments now a day can be seen a mile away.

Depend more on special effects, trying to be all fancy instead of suspenseful.

This. It really depends on who is watching it. The audience before didn't have what we have now, the Internet. It's easy to download and stream movies and critique them.

People before don't have this privilege so they only rely on cinemas. The big thing here is that in our generation, we can watch whatever the **** we like and I'm pretty sure a horror buff watched hundreds of horror films to be scared anymore.

Honestly, some of the classic horror films didn't scare me although I still haven't watched the original Exorcist.

But in all honesty, if they stop going over the top with special effects, horror movies will be effective. The corny ass SFX most of the time ruin what should be a great horror flick.

they can be but they have to be done right. the problem is too many movies are about ghosts these days. we need a new creepy villain to come back. also psychological horror movies are way scarier than slasher films.
honestly i always had this hope that there would be a scary movie where then villain kills people when its daylight outside i dont know why but i feel like it would make it a lot scarier.

We've become desensitized because we've seen too many horror movies. When watching a horror movie we can see everything coming from a mile away. Nothing shocks us anymore.

I think the last groundbreaking movie to really terrify the public was The Blair Witch Project and since then we've had a few creepy films like The Sixth Sense, 28 Days Later, The Ring, The Others, Saw, Paranormal Activity, Martyrs, Insidious and The Conjuring. But nothing groundbreaking.

Nothing scares me anymore.

Horror always has down periods where it seems like everything being released is tired and cliché. Then something is released that becomes a huge WOM hit and the genre is briefly revived for a few years before dying again. We've seen this happen with Scream, The Ring, Saw, Paranormal Activity and most recently The Conjuring.

Apparently It Follows is supposed to be terrifying. Looking forward to March 13th to judge for myself.
