News: Turkey has created a monster (=ISIS) and now cannot deal

Throughout the Syrian civil war, Turkey's southern border has served as a transit point for cheap oil, weapons, foreign fighters, and pillaged antiquities. As the conflict progressed, the fighters taking advantage of this loose border enforcement were more and more radical. ISIS currently controls about 40% of the 565-mile border with Syria.

Turkey cracked down last year and now regularly deports or bars people suspected of wanting to join insurgents in Syria and Iraq. But Western officials told The Journal that "more vigorous efforts to seal the border would expose Turkey to retaliation" from ISIS (aka Islamic State, IS, ISIL, or Daesh).

“Turkey is trapped now — it created a monster and doesn’t know how to deal with it,” one Western diplomat told The Journal.

“ISIS has many spies here in Turkey, and not just spies but killers. They have points where they can cross the border anytime they want,” a smuggler and former fighter with the US-backed Free Syrian Army told The Journal. “The Turks are afraid of ISIS, and so they don’t want to make problems for ISIS.”

Read the article, thousands if not millions in Turkey now support ISIS... so Turkey cannot fight them. This won't end well, I see ISIS conquer Turkey and Libya and maybe Egypt too

They should kill terrorists and their supporters, whether they are at home or abroad!

ISIS might not force Turkey to do anything radical since they are a NATO member. If ISIS does try to take them we have to go in.

who would go in tho? They have put themselves in this situation + it's a muslim country becoming more and more conservative and authoritarian where it seems many people support ISIS... I don't see anything good coming out of this situation

No, Turkey would never accept ISIS, they would never be accepted by Turkish civilizians. They are seen as monsters even by the religious people in here. I don't know what our government think about them or what are their secret plans, but even the government's supporters would never welcome ISIS.

Article 5 of the NATO alliance will be invoked, an attack on one is an attack on all, so every NATO nation will have to go in to defend Turkey to some extent. I can't imagine Turkey refusing NATO support if they are about to fall.

T4p, I'm glad Turkey is finally getting exposed for their ISIS support. It's still beyond me that a country helping terrorists to that extent is allowed in the NATO.. and has the 2nd biggest army in the NATO. #mess

This is why we categorically cannot accept Turkey into the EU. Isn't the vast, vast majority of Turkey not even in Europe anyway?
