To be honest, I've always been torn with the idea of putting animals in confined spaces. For example with tigers, they really aren't meant to live in captivity. They're meant to be living in the wild, in their own natural habitats. However, they're on the VERGE of extinction. I'd rather have them kept in zoos (with the right conditions) to preserve their species from dying out even further. Same case with elephants, pandas, etc
I'd be happier with the idea of keeping these extinct animals in the wild, where they belong, but only with STRICT observation so they can't' be killed for their fur only to end up on a rich woman's back somewhere in Beverly Hills.

If they're endangered or in danger of becoming extinct, yes.

While I do enjoy the opportunity to see amazing creatures up close, I feel that animals should really be left at home in the wild. Non-invasive safaris make a lot more sense.
Then again, conservation is important, too.
(Basically what Golden said).

Saw this on Twitter. Not sure how accurate it is but it's still saddening.

I'm not too sure about the numbers but it's simply horrible what human greed and hunger for power and money can do to mother nature. I read somewhere that we lost 97% of wild tigers in just under a century, and it's beyond heartbreaking.

I agree 100%.
Once the population has increased in captivity they then will slowly be introduced back into the wild, preferably in a wild life reserve to keep tabs on them and to allow for the natural hunting and behaviors to return.
Otherwise, I don't agree with animals being held in captivity. If they are going to be held they need to have SPACE. Double the space they have now. Whales and dolphins in particular.

Is there no other place for highly endangered species to be kept in captivity besides zoos though? Although I guess the benefit of zoos is that profit is also being made.

Not to mention the awareness you're raising for animal extinction. I think if you were to make every-day people encounter with animals that are extremely endangered, you'd make them think twice about animal preservation.

I did this as my presentation for English last semester
I said yes they should because they help conserve endangered species and other species.

You realize this was a hot topic in the 1800s and 99% of the civilized world is in agreement on this issue, right?

Anyone voting no is a moron.
Very few Zoo animals are taken from the wild. Zoo's are very important because of their breeding programs, rescuing animals who could not survive in the wild, and raising public awareness.
