How exactly have the Cosby Show (why is this show being compared?) and Seinfeld had more impact than Friends?

Friends has directly influenced a lot of sitcoms after... HIMYM, New Girl, Happy Endings, and even TBBT has shifted towards a similar format in recent seasons.

Seinfeld certainly has had an impact of its own, and it can easily be argued that it actually opened the door for Friends. But Friends had much broader appeal which the above shows and many others clearly tried to mimic.

Although the producers thought of Friends as "only a TV show", numerous psychologists investigated the cultural impact of Friends during the series' run. Aniston's hairstyle was nicknamed "The Rachel", and copied around the world. Joey's catchphrase, "How you doin'?", became a popular part of Western English slang, often used as a pick-up line or when greeting friends. The series also influenced the English language, according to a study by the University of Toronto that found that the characters used the emphasized word "so" to modify adjectives more often than any other intensifier. Although the preference had already made its way into the American vernacular, usage on the series may have accelerated the change. Perry's habit of ending a sentence unfinished for sarcasm also influenced viewers' speech.

Cosby is obviously iconic for bringing back the primetime sitcom and opening doors for African Americans. And Seinfeld was a true phenomenon. The Soup Nazi alone is more iconic than anything Friends have ever produced.

I'm 16. Surely, I can't be expected to know of one show that ended 25 years ago, and another that concluded 17 years ago, albeit was only moderately successful in the UK.

Some of the most successful shows in the 00's and the 10's are inspired by it, like The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and iCarly. I used to think it was overrated too, but when I really started watching the show got me as a big fan. The plots were really great, the jokes were on point and some of the themes were pretty great too, like solidary belly and gay marriage.

Exactly. Friends was global. Seinfeld was too but not as much, and The Cosby Show was extremely local to the US.

No one knows what a Cosby Show is and I guess the other one was cute for the people living at the time it aired.

Friends remains impactful and recognizable more than a decade later after it finished. it's like the most famous american sitcom of all time. You need to stop.

Jen is the one of the most iconic female that ever graced TV. I mean good for bill, but he isn't relevant like Jen is. Friends catapulted her into an icon. Even during The Cosby shows peak, Bill was still not a force in pop culture.

Jen literally defines the 90's. in the US and WW, everyone was watching and laughing at friends. There's a reason why it's always referred to as the best show of all time.

And the fact that some people here don't know Seinfeld and The Cosby Show, but know Friends (even the ones that came here to drag) tells a lot about how impactful the show is.
