I'm an Arab and I can tell you that it is a very very very hard language to learn for a foreign student. We have a totally different dialect from the Arabic you learn (fosha) and it's entirely different in each country even us we can't fully understand each others dialects plus the grammar is very annoying but not definitely not as hard as German I can tell you! (That language is a pain in the ass)
I took it for 4 years and yes, it's difficult, but like anything else if you apply yourself you'll catch on to things and you'll do fine. But, you definitely have to apply yourself (do all your homework and even extra practice on your own).
It should be noted though that after taking it for so long the only full sentence I know how to say is "I can't speak Arabic". I learned how to say it one day through YouTube so I could go to class and tell my teacher whenever she called on me.
