Well duh. It hadn't received any publicity or been sent to radio anywhere other than Canada yet. People had to hear it
somewhere. Like obviously the video set the stage for a great head start, but had it not been for the video and tweets the song still obviously would've smashed given a more "traditional release." It clearly had its own legs.
Just look at something like Somebody That I Used to Know, for example, which was only a local hit in Oceania for the longest time until it was released elsewhere.
Grassroots hits often only take off in their country of origin before their labels begin to invest in global releases.
This is so irrelevant to this thread though.
