Yes and no. I wouldn't call it reality, but I have experienced sleep paralysis and it's terrifying. You're in a state between actually being awake and sleeping. I saw and heard many terrifying things and it was like I was awake seeing it in my own room. It would sometimes last a good few minutes and you are unable to move or yell or talk.
I've woken up to something like this standing over me

No. Regarding others' supposed sightings, I believe any "ghost" or other supposed paranormal activity always has a rational explanation or the story is simply being recounted wrongly.
Don't feel scared. Sleep paralysis is just a medical condition that people like to portray as demon visitations.

Several circumstances have been identified that are associated with an increased risk of sleep paralysis. These include insomnia and sleep deprivation, an erratic sleep schedule, stress, overuse of stimulants, physical fatigue, as well as certain medications that are used to treat ADHD.
Yes a ghost. I woke up one night and saw a woman starring at me over my bed. She kind of looked like my mom but I couldn't tell because it was dark, so I said "mom?" and the ghost quickly flew into the wall and disappeared. I didn't sleep for the rest of the night I was so freaked out, so I know it wasn't a dream. I told my mom about it the next day and she thinks it was my guardian angel, and that it might be my great grandmother.
You were most likely experiencing astral projection or something.
