US shooting suspect slams religion
Quote:
Craig Hicks doesn't hate Muslims. An avowed atheist, his online posts instead depict a man who despises religion itself, but nevertheless seems to support an individual's right to his own beliefs.
"I hate Islam just as much as christianity, but they have the right to worship in this country just as much as any others do," the man now accused of killing three Muslim college students stated in one 2012 post over the proposed construction of a mosque near the World Trade Center site in New York.
"I don't want to dispute ones beliefs, unless they try and push such beliefs onto me or another," he wrote.
One of the victim's fathers, Namee Barakat, told the AP that Hicks also had visited his son's condo previously, flashing his gun as he demanded they stop using visitors' parking spots.

Quote:
Several people have said Hicks would show up at their door, gun on hip, to complain that their music was too loud or that they or a visitor had parked in someone else's spot. He complained so often that the towing company servicing the development banned him from calling.

Welp, what do you internet social activists have to say about that?

While I never cared for Glocks personally, it stinks that anyone would blame a firearm rather than the operator of such firearm for such a terrible act. I think I'll start blaming McDonalds for my weight problem, Christianity for the Ku Klux Klan, and Islam for terrorism.

Blaming everything on racism without thinking and/or examining the evidence first trivializes other actual hate crimes and threatens to lessen the importance given to them. The boy who cried wolf is an apt parable.

You'd think it's obvious, but...

What do social activists have to do with this? Those people aren't activists. They're people pushing their personal agenda without facts. That's not real activism.
Anyway I agree with the point. Cheap media does anything to get clicks and money, especially now thanks to the Internet. First they demonize Muslims because that's what people want to read and now they're making them Muslims victims because there's an audience for that now. Muslim Twitter was going off on this trying to paint into a hate crime even though the initial police investigation did not show any grudge against Muslims. Let them do their job and figure it out!

Priyanka Chopra, lemme go download your single with Pitbull.
Exactly. Now they're retracting, saying the Muslims were overreacting.

Why didn't they alert authorities if the man flashed his gun without a reason? Not to say anyone has a reason to flash their gun at someone. If the man was harassing people who have done nothing to warrant a harassment, I would assume they'd call the police, no?

What do you mean he "seems to disregard the fact that the man flashed his gun at everyone"?

fff anyone who thinks this man stalked and murdered three Muslims solely over a ****ing parking spot is insane. He obviously had some ill will towards them prior to the slaying and this whole situation falls right in line with other hate crimes. But, yes convince yourselves that hate crimes don't exist, this isn't one of them, this man liked Muslims, and would've executed 3 rednecks the same way

You're say that like you have all the facts. You don't and you're pushing an agenda just like I said above.
The situation does not fit a hate crime. He did have ill will towards them, but even the victim's relative confirmed that he was always furious about the parking violations. He had no history of Islamophobia and even defended Muslims in his Internet posts. And where did he stalk them? He lived near them.
This didn't get much media coverage because no one cared, but an example of a hate crime would be the woman in New York City who pushed an Indian man onto an upcoming train because she thought he was a Muslim [he wasn't, but a lot of uneducated Americans think South Asians are Middle Eastern and they're all Muslim]. Witnesses said she was ranting about Muslims before and after the murder and even her relatives confirmed she had a grudge against Muslims since 9/11. Hate crime.

There is SO much gun violence in the States that it's really not a stretch to imagine that someone there could murder people over a parking dispute. Especially since he seems like a really imbalanced person.

Honestly, people will believe what they want to believe. His own family mentioned that he harassed them about tickets and parking space numerous times. They also mentioned that he flashed his gun and them and their neighbors. I am still trying to understand why they didn't alert the authorities of this if they didn't do anything wrong. If someone flashed a gun at me for no reason, I would call the police ASAP.

.
Of course Islamophobia is real; however, the man has been attacking every religion. He also supported the building of a mosque at the 9/11 location.

Nobody is defending him. The evidence points to it not being a hate crime. Go check his Facebook. We all know he's a terrible and imbalanced person.

The fact that people like you, with a very obvious agenda, resort to calling anything that doesn't support your agenda defending the killer. An irresponsible, frankly disgusting way of trying to intimidate others into adopting your illogical viewpoint.

Hm? I quoted a post from his Facebook. He wrote it.
He hates every religion, not just Muslims.
Quote:
In often publicly posted Facebook rants, Hicks was brazen about his disdain for all faiths. In one post regarding specific texts from the Quran, the Jewish Talmud and the Bible about battling nonbelievers, he wrote: "I wish they would exterminate each other!"
|
Quote:
But he was just as passionate about personal freedom and liberty — championing an individual's right to worship or not worship, legal abortion and gay marriage and, perhaps most fervently, the right under the U.S. Constitution to own and bear arms

The man is clearly unstable so why is it so hard to believe he did this over a parking spot when all his neighbors said he was awful to everyone?

It's a better headline for the media if a white man shoots three people. It's more interesting if they're a minority too.
Y'all are brainwashed, believing everything you read like this.
