Why are EDM singles not such good sellers? They tend to stream more than sell. I've always wondered this. The only EDM single in recent memory that was a huge seller + streamer was WMU!.

I think it's the fact that most of them are formulatic and made-for-radio, and those singles hardly ever sell that well (such as LMH and Prayer In C.) Most of those types of songs are to forgettable to buy.

Firstly, WMU! is amazing and deserves every ounce of success it got. Just wanted to point that out.

Anyways, I think most pop listeners see EDM or house tracks like Rather Be and Waves as songs they can just turn the radio on or put the music video on to hear- they're not songs that most people want to repeat over and over again. Dance just isn't the prevailing subgenre of pop music in the US. That's why those songs didn't become huge hits.
