Some of the unchecked racism in this thread needs to be warned. It's ignorant coming from people who act like black people's history in the US doesn't play a role in this (financial, political, etc). Those claiming black people don't have the best reputation for raising kids usually opt for stereotypes rather than look at success stories like P.Diddy, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, etc.

Also segregation wasn't that long ago, when black students were told by white and black alike that their best bet would be to pursue menial jobs, to just settle for less (hence the stupid welfare jokes). It's not like the flood gates just magically opened for everyone (black people) after the 60s (even after MLK Jr. died just for all humans to be treated as such), for those of you assuming black people had back then the same opportunities they have today. These things take time (Generations) to improve. Some black college students today may be the first in their families to be able to go to college (many barriers like costs limited this for so long). And you have had potential success stories that were ended by racism/prejudice.

Also, if disciplinary methods are speculated, there are parents around the world (east Europe, Asia for example) who also discipline physically (spanking). It's not just black people, like it is assumed.

No, adoption is not less popular in the black community. There are plenty of black people raising other family member's kids. Just because they might not be raising kids, with no biological ties, at the rates that whites do, does not mean that blacks do not adopt.


Inherently, even though it's none of my business, I would have a real problem with an affluent black family or would be black parent purposely shopping for a white baby. Why would you do that if you're affluent, black and looking to adopt a random child, when you know of the glut of black children who need homes?

I hope to adopt at some point. As an ethnic minority Male, from two diverse countries, i feel i can provide a rich, cultured history for the child. I guess i would be more preferential to a child of colour but i would never object to a white child.

I actually think it could be very beneficial in the long run, being that child would be educated to a great standard.

It doesn't happen generally due to ethnic minorities not being in a greater financial position to take on the burden of a child not entirely theirs biologically.

You initially replied to someone asking about why he/she sees more trans-racial adoptions among whites than blacks by saying that adoption was more popular in the white community. Popular implies that something is liked or admired. Whites don’t like or admire adoption more than blacks, especially given the sheer volume of black households with grandparents and other extended family members raising relatives’ kids. It takes a lot of time and money to adopt stranger’s children through reputable means, and as a whole, whites are usually in a better financial position to initiate and endure the process.

Adoption is amazing overall. who cares which race adopts who
