Lawmaker says ‘significant errror’ to allow trans. athletes
Quote:
Last year, the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) agreed to a new policy that would allow transgendered students to participate in interscholastic athletics.
Lawmakers are now pushing a bill that would eradicate that policy and instead impose a ban transgendered student athletes. It advanced out of the House State Affairs Committee by a vote of 10-2 on Monday.
When Rep. Jim Bolin announced his intentions to advance the bill last month, he told the organization that he believed it had made a “very bad decision” that “raises profound issues about the nature of high school sports in our state.” The conservative South Dakota Family Policy Council is supporting the bill because it believes the policy does not address “anatomical differences” and it has concerns over locker rooms. This would essentially ban transgendered students from playing on the team that matches their gender identity.
And I agree with the lawmakers! Screw political correctness, we're talking sports here!
A girl's team that has male-to-female transgendered players has an unfair advantage. Males are stronger, faster and have better reaction times than females. That's why we separate most all physical sports by sex. Just because someone "identifies" as a female does not mean their physical ability is magically reduced to that of a biological female. We have to keep sports fair. If transgendered people refuse to play on the teams corresponding to their biological sex, then make a transgendered league! It's just common sense.
What about those people who have genetic defects where they have characteristics of both genders?
For example, Foekje Dillema is female, but she has a Y-chromosome so she gets the some of the facial features and height of a male, and also possibly the physical strength of a male, which might have given her an unfair disadvantage over females without any genetic issues.
This is a really complicated issue overall, it's not as simple as male or female.
if they are hormones, the muscule structure changes on a MTF transgendered person.
"the complexity of the issues surrounding the participation of transsexual athletes has prevented consensus...although the psychosocial arguments in favour of allowing transsexual participation would appear to be relatively uncomplicated, there is... inadequate physiological performance related data to allow an unambiguous position to emerge"
At the end of the day, the slight advantage isn't important.
Trans men and women should be able to participate in sports as their identified gender.
At the end of the day it's that slight advantage that makes the difference. Do you think it would be fair for a 6'11" transgender man weighing 250lbs to play in the WNBA?
If a transgendered man tries to play tennis in the ATP, they would get demolished. Serena Williams, arguably the greatest Women's tennis player can't barely beat anyone ranked outside the top #100. Play the league with your designated sex as it actually makes a difference what your body is developed.
A transgendered women would be considered the best Tennis player in history, which would be unfair.
