Town has 100% approval to ban LGBT discrimination
A town in West Virginia had a record 100% approval of it's citizens to ban LGBT discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation.
Quote:
“I never thought it would matter because Thurmond, West Virginia, is so so small,” Tighe Bullock, one of the town’s council members, told The Post in an interview. But the symbolism of the unanimous vote in favor of the ordinance was important to the residents, every single one of whom is civically active.
Following a unanimous vote by all five of its residents, Thurmond, W.Va., is now the smallest town in the nation with a ban on employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination against LGBT individuals.
Bullock, 26, has a family home in Thurmond. He spent a large chunk of his early childhood there and is something of a legacy politician in the tiny town: “Both my parents were mayors at one point,” he said.
In addition to Bullock, the current town government (and complete adult population) looks like so: The town recorder, Chad McCune, is married to Missy Dragan, a council member. The mayor, Melanie Dragan, is Missy’s mom. The third council member is Missy’s aunt.
