Billboard (the authority most of you put on a pedestal when it's convenient for your favorite artist) coined the phrase pulling a Beyonce, and every other media outlet ran with it. So take that up with them.

You haven't heard? Billboard is untrustworthy and unprofessional now. Their opinions are biased. At least according to the twinks of ATRL when Beyoncé is involved.

Yep, you're right, but even with a warning, these are all surprise releases. And Bowie's TND was
recorded in ultra secrecy and everybody thought he retired, so it may be the blueprint for such things.

But at the end of the day, does it really matter? You're just trying to discredit Bey as you do in every single thread of hers that you enter. Yes, she was creating hype perhaps but to say it was direct promotion for an album no one knew about ten months before said album came out is a bit of a stretch.
And if you think Drake hasn't been anywhere then clearly you're just spouting ******** that you really know nothing about once again only to discredit Bey.

No, they aren't. Accept it and move on. You're feelings on the matter mean and change nothing. Beyoncé started the surprise release trend and will remain cited whenever someone else chooses to do it. Hope you enjoy hearing the phrase "(insert artist) just pulled a Beyoncé!" Throughout the rest of life.

This is a lie and you know it, he may not have had the Super Bowl but people have been expecting his release, he released tracks months ago, he hyped **** in the Wayne v Drake tour, people have been ready for his next release regardless of what project they thought it'd be. I love this album and I'll be damned if I let any wasps ruin it or self-titled by comparing them or trying to one up drakes release

Nobody cared about what Radiohead or such others released. Beyoncé is the blueprint for surprise releases, deal with it.
I think Drake will either come close or sell a bit more than what Bey sold. Is his album exclusive to i-tunes anyways?

You sound mad.
You know very well y'all would be accusing others with a surprise release of doing low key promo but bey was everywhere that year and teased with a new song and everyone new 5 was coming soon, yet she did zero promo.
Edit: you're doing it right now by implying drake has been relevant lately

You are not only missing the Superbowl, the pepsi cans all over the country with her face, the H&M commercials all over the country too, and the I don't know how many legs her tour had.
Believe me all the things mentioned make a huge difference, also the PR team made sure she was all over the news all year long.

Do you even know what 'surprise' means? How do you warn someone and call it a surprise?

No, a surprise is instant without any forewarning. The examples you gave weren't surprises in the purest sense as they didn't fully commit to it. They all had press releases and other measures of warnings beforehand.
Look at it this way, if you were to announce to someone that you were going to their place with an hour in advance, there would be no sense of surprise when you arrived within the frame stated (or at all).
Beyoncé and Drake fully committed to releasing a surprise album in the purest sense. The others didn't, Radiohead's in particular was more of a fakeout and worlds apart from the measure used by Beyoncé, and now Drake.
