If you can't, the video is a trailer for a show that premiered today called "The Slap". It is a mini TV series, 8 episodes, but the plot is absolutely ridiculous and the trailer was just embarassing
So basically it shows a few families getting ready for a party, and then all of them meet up at the house where the party is and all the parents are above the patio eating/talking, while kids are below playing. This kid starts swinging his baseball bat at the other kids. The parents try to get him to stop but he doesn't listen.
Eventually the father of one of the kids he was swinging at viciously goes over to him, grabs the bat and shakes him saying he should listen to adults. The kid fights back and then the father slaps him. All of the parents run down quickly and then they go "oh my god, he hitour son! He slapped our son." and the look on everyones faces is just It just looks so overexaggerated
I just couldn't. The video has almost a 50/50 ratio of likes & dislikes.
Like it has the opportunity to open so many dialogues on parenting, discipline, what defines child abuse, and the whole family dynamic?? Apparently it's an adaptation of an Australian series and it was a huge success, so I'm sure the US one will be good. The cast is terrific. Each episode is supposed to be based around a different character and how "the slap" affects their lives.
I think the premise is somewhat interesting. Clearly people are on the fence about the topic (in the comments section/likes bar), so it's cool to talk about it
But the trailer is so cringe-y, like it's not an action movie
The show is a lot more than the slap. The slap just sets off a motion of events that were bound to happen, but probably wouldn't if it weren't for the slap.
At least that's what I got from watching the family dynamics.

I'm sorry, but that sounds stupid. I plan on watching, but I don't think a show like that will work on American TV. Plus the trailer makes it seem like it is something explosive and action packed, which is not suppose to be the case.

Yes!!!
The words flashing, "Who's side are you on?"
But either way, would an emotional trailer have worked? It would have looked like much more of a joke there's no way to make a trailer that wouldn't seem not stupid.
