Are short people discriminated against=heightism?
From Wikipedia:
Heightism is prejudice or discrimination against individuals based on height. In principle it refers to discriminatory treatment against individuals whose height is not within the normal acceptable range of height in a population. Height discrimination is most common against shorter than average men and is generally accepted and ignored.[1][2]
In the workplace:
A research paper published in the Journal of Applied Psychology showed that height is strongly related to success for men. It showed that increase in height for men corresponds to increase in income after controlling for other social psychological variables like age, sex, and weight.[1] Economists Nicola Persico, Andrew Postlewaite and Dan Silverman explained the "height premium" and found that "a 1.8-percent increase in wages accompanies every additional inch of height".
Surveys have uncovered that less than 3% of CEOs were below 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) in height. Ninety percent of CEOs are of above average height.[12]
In dating:
The greater reproductive success of taller men is attested to by studies indicating that taller men are more likely to be married and to have more children, except in societies with severe sex imbalances caused by war.[13]
In the media:
In general, short statured men are portrayed as unsuccessful in career, romance, etc. (e.g., Spence Olchin, Bud Bundy, and George Costanza) or they are unlikeable tyrants in need of compensating for "something" (e.g. Lord Farquaad from the Shrek films or to a lesser degree Edward Elric). Similarly, shorter men are often denied leading roles. Although some famous cinema actors such as Alan Ladd 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m) and Tom Cruise 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) have been short in real life, in their fictional depictions they have been presented as taller.
Legislation:
Currently, there is one state in the United States of America, Michigan, that prohibits height discrimination.[27] Ontario, Canada prohibits height discrimination under the human rights code.[32]
Is heightism the last frontier of discrimination? did you ever experience it? how do you deal with it?
Discuss.

Yeah obviously taller people (generally men) are treated better than shorter people. Same thing with levels of attractiveness. It's really kinda stupid to make up terms for it though. I feel like this is the type of stuff that will never change sadly, people with cheekbones so prominent it looks like they're sickly will always have advantages over the rest.

Oh please, I hate crap like this. Unless you're very short as a result of an actual condition, saying stuff like "heightism" is ridiculous. I've even seen some dumbasses on tumblr say things like "tall privilege." That's a mockery of actual discrimination like racism and homophobia.
Some people are short, some are tall, some are hot, some are ugly, some are fat, some are skinny. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages (and will attract or repel different sets of people). Suck it up!

Nope. Have you ever tried to buy clothes, sit on a plane, find furniture, fit in a car as a tall person? Way harder.
Shorties have it easy.

While I agree it's stupid to make a huge ordeal matching things like race and sexual orientation out of this, you'd have to lie to say that tall people aren't generally treated better than short people, etc. for your examples.

There was actually section on height in a cool book I read a while back called Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. Here's an excerpt to show what I'm talking about here:
Quote:
On a conscious level, I’m sure that all of us don’t think that we treat tall people any differently from short people. But there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that height–particularly in men–does trigger a certain set of very positive, unconscious associations. I polled about half of the companies on the Fortune 500 list–the largest corporations in the United States–asking each company questions about its CEO. The heads of big companies are, as I’m sure comes as no surprise to anyone, overwhelmingly white men, which undoubtedly reflects some kind of implicit bias. But they are also virtually all tall: In my sample, I found that on average CEOs were just a shade under six feet. Given that the average American male is 5’9″ that means that CEOs, as a group, have about three inches on the rest of their sex. But this statistic actually understates matters. In the U.S. population, about 14.5 percent of all men are six feet or over. Among CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, that number is 58 percent. Even more strikingly, in the general American population, 3.9 percent of adult men are 6’2″ or taller. Among my CEO sample, 30 percent were 6’2″ or taller.

No one is comparing height problems to racism, homophobia etc.
Height is often tied to masculinity and since y'all are gay y'all know a thing or 2 about being treated differently for not being masc so ya short guys do have a bit of a struggle

Ya. The people on this forum saying they wouldn't date someone because they aren't tall enough are all the proof you need.
I'm a shortie. I'm 5'6, but I believe the average Canadian is 5'5. I have a friend that is 6'3 (I think) and it's so funny.
