That doesn't make what happened to them any less tragic, or any less of a hate crime.

I hate that any time a high profile murder takes place, society feels the freedom to invade the victim's personal life in order to allow room for the opinion that the person "deserved" to die because they "weren't a good person." It happened with Trayvon Martin. It happened with Mike Brown. Now it's happening with Deah Barakat.

The fact of the matter is that none of these people deserved to die, regardless of whether or not they were homophobic, or whatever other dirt the media digs up on them. Their deaths are terrible crimes, and information like this is irrelevant to the situation and is only spread in order to manipulate the public so that they don't sympathize with the victim(s) and demand justice.
