That's why i'm asking! I've a lot of references of "negro music", "negro culture", and it doesn't have any racist/offensive connotation at all, that's why I was a bit confused.
So it's only offensive in the US?
How old are the references? If it's something printed this century, that's sketchy. Otherwise I think the word fell out of favor sometime in the 70s and was considered totally wrong by the 80s.
Here in Dominican Republic the word is weird because it can used as a term of endearment for anybody regardless of skin color, but very few people would openly describe themselves as black/negro.
