Beyonce will likely win album of the year as a lifetime achievement award when she gets older, and its a shame. The grammys have ****ed up before, Giving it to Lionel Richie over both Prince and Springsteen for two of the most iconic 80s albums, Christopher Cross over Pink Floyds The Wall, Celine Dion over Smashing Pumpkins and The Fugees (and Becks Odelay), That Grammy Bait folsky Where Art Thou Soundtrack over both Stankonia and U2s comeback album, Herbie Hancock over Amy Winehouse and Kanye West, Ray Charles over Green Day and Kanye West, list goes on and on and on. The AOTY grammy is more often than not, a lifetime achievement award. Beck shouldve won for previous works, not this one. It will be Beyonces turn ten years from now, the same people that ridicule Beck now, will ridicule Beyonce, when she wins over someone more hip and in ten years from now, bank on it.

If an album with more writers and producers is less worthy of AOTY then why did 21 and Thriller win over Wasting Light and Synchronicity? It's obvious that Morning Phase was placed into the category and not voted into. The Recording Academy knew exactly what they were doing. Beyoncé was destined to lose from the beginning because of the racist and patriarchal politics of the industry. BEYONCÉ didn't cater to the white market like Thriller and 21 did. BEYONCÉ didn't take elements from Soul/R&B and whitewash them to fit into radio like Thriller and 21. No Pop artist other than Sam Smith really catered to that traditional view of what Pop music needs to be, so the academy had to adjust the nominations like they've been exposed of doing many times.

so what is your race excuse for Gaga and Katy etc losing? oh maybe it's cause they were women. I mean come on plenty of people of color and females have won.

There is no race excuse.

Look at the critic reviews for The Suburbs compared to Katy and GaGa's albums. The Suburbs was a monumental album and a huge moment for Alternative music. The themes and messages in the music are so strong and creative, especially being compared the other nominees. The same goes for BEYONCÉ. It was much more well-received by critics than all the other albums and had much more of a voice and strong message.

Pitchfork explained it perfectly in their review for Morning Phase.

They agree the Morning Phase is less interesting and much more tame than any other Beck record. I think most people with any taste in music would agree that this is Beck's least deserving album to with AOTY.

The racist and patriarchal industry that gives her nothing but critical acclaim, no matter how good or bad she is?
The racist and patriarchal industry that calls her Queen Bey, and practically spoils her, even forcing singers to give up their roles in songs so Beyonce can get even more exposure?

Beyonce won 3/4 Grammys the other night. What would be the point of a "racist and patriarchal" industry to not give Beyonce the album of the year if they think she is the queen of the industry?

The industry is racist and patriarchal but Beyonce is the exception. They kiss her ass more than any other musician in the business. If anything, Nicki Minaj is victim to the negative aspects of the industry with the whole Iggy Azalea situation.
