It's obvious that Morning Phase was placed into the category and not voted into. The Recording Academy knew exactly what they were doing. Beyoncé was destined to lose from the beginning because of the racist and patriarchal politics of the industry. BEYONCÉ didn't cater to the white market like Thriller and 21 did. BEYONCÉ didn't take elements from Soul/R&B and whitewash them to fit into radio like Thriller and 21. No Pop artist other than Sam Smith really catered to that traditional view of what Pop music needs to be, so the academy had to adjust the nominations like they've been exposed of doing many times.

The racist and patriarchal industry that hands Beyoncé Grammys like they're Halloween candy?
The racist and patriarchal industry that gives her nothing but critical acclaim, no matter how good or bad she is?
The racist and patriarchal industry that calls her Queen Bey, and practically spoils her, even forcing singers to give up their roles in songs so Beyonce can get even more exposure?
Beyonce won 3/4 Grammys the other night. What would be the point of a "racist and patriarchal" industry to not give Beyonce the album of the year if they think she is the queen of the industry?
The industry is racist and patriarchal but Beyonce is the exception. They kiss her ass more than any other musician in the business. If anything, Nicki Minaj is victim to the negative aspects of the industry with the whole Iggy Azalea situation.
