I'm not black; but there are loads of afro-caribbean shops in UK cities and towns, male products seem to be mostly oils or gels.. My best mate is black and I've never seen her brothers put anything other than gel in their hair. I get the shaving troubles (my lord, the bumps would drive me crazy ) but didn't know there were usual haircare issues too. What's the problem?

I don't get the bumps never happens to anyone in my family.

But I just want nice shampoo and moisturizer but not that gross **** that makes you flammable. HALP

In their case it's from wet shaving, they all stick to motorized razors instead now. Because the afro hair is curly, wet shaving can leave the hair too short, so that it embeds under the skin.

I had to get a full haircut recently cus my hair broke at two different spots. I think the brush I've been using may have been too hard but at the same time, it could be a combination of factors, well mostly chemicals. Until a few months ago, I didnt know it was a bad idea to shampoo nearly every other day but moreso I think using products generally designed for Caucasian hair types wasn't helping matters. Im Nigerian but my hair is naturally curly. In winter, I prefer not to get a haircut so I apply S-curl texturiser for easier maintenance. For the first time, I used it twice in one year and I think that's when my hair got weaker hence the breakage now. Im starting afresh and would like to do it right.

I'd only use it for very very short hair otherwise it's too sticky and will just clog up one's hair follicles

I'd feel more comfortable going with (natural) oils than processed chemicals. Our hair is naturally drier so gel gives it that sort of wet look that shines under light. Sorry, I don't have much of a beard to shave but I know some people's skin aren't compatible with generic shavers so maybe try an electric one if you haven't already.

I'm not black but ive been using this on my hair for years. It works. Also coconut oil products or straight up coconut oil work wonders. I used to use Perfect for perm also back in the days but the one in the link is better imo

I have no idea what to do with my hair. It's soft and curly and it grows fast so it can't hold any cut for more than 2 days.

Just use organic coconut oil. You can literally use it for everything: skin, hair, cooking. Get unrefined if you want the coconut scent or refined if you want a neutral one.

I see ... I've read about coconut oil as well. im going to invest in one soonest but I also want something that'll maintain my curls when they are over 2 month's length. That's when they start to require alot of effort for an all-round even look.

Guess I've learnt my lesson the hard way. I was brushing my hair the other and a chunk of it rubbed off onto the brush. It was right around the middle too so a taller person would've noticed it. It was small enough area though so it wasn't super obvious

Honestly I'd stick with the "white products" to maintain curls of two months. The professional grade (expensive) products is worth the price, given you do some research before purchasing. Also have you ever tried gar-knee-ay fruit-tiece (too lazy to Google spelling) Leave in conditioner? When I had curls this was my go to product. It Comes in a green tube that retails for around 7USD
