I was going to point that out but you missed the second part of my irony post.
Democratic Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal lied many times about serving in Vietnam. Even though the news was broke during his campaign the voters didn't seem to mind too much about his lies.
What was his excuse for the lies? I meant to say I served during Vietnam not in Vietnam. He received five deferments to avoid going to war between 1965 and 1970, then volunteered and went into boot camp, and then the reserves in 1970 one year after troop withdrawals began. So technically he served during Vietnam but there is no way any soldier would repeatedly make the mistake of saying 'in' vs. 'during.'
Brian Williams covered this stolen valor story as well.
