Friday Report: 'SpongeBob' Scores Super $15.1 Million
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water crushed expectations on Friday, while Jupiter Ascending and Seventh Son bombed.
The adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon TV show opened to an estimated $15.1 million yesterday. In comparison, the first SpongeBob movie earned $9.6 million on its first Friday nearly a decade ago.
More interesting is the fact that this opening is nearly on par with The LEGO Movie's $17.1 million haul on the same date last year. If Sponge Out of Water holds up like LEGO through the weekend, it will wind up north of $60 million.

I saw it today and it was a mess. I actually loved it? I hate most of the new episodes, but it was a nice change. It could have used a LOT less poop/fart jokes, but whatever. It had a lot of adult innuendos which made me chuckle, but it was actually pretty nice.
About them bitches only being out of water for like 10 minutes though. Sponge Barely Out of Water should have been the title.
This is doing well at the box office (which is great because it was flawless) but the marketing department sucks. Only 15 minutes is spent in the real world and the trailer made it seem like it was 90% the whole movie. Most Spongebob fans are probably dragging it's ass when they don't even know about the lies marketing has been spreading.
This was actually fantastic though. Trippy as hell, hilarious, and it had a lot of adult humor and references to the early seasons. It's actually better than the first movie. 9/10.
