American Idol type shows are not respected or valued as television let alone their contestants who are definitely not respected or valued as musicians.
And you're bringing sales into this.
You brought up the GP preference, I backed my opinion up with statistics.
I don't see people conflicting mentions of MJ or Madonna. Dancing is a talent. The thread is most talented musician.
ok so now any talent makes you a talented musician? I can play guitar AND eat 10 hot dogs in 30 seconds... I guess I meet your criteria for most talented musician.
btw I didn't see anyone bring up MJ or Madonna's dancing.
Surprised that not many people are saying Freddie Mercury.
One of the best male vocalists of the past 50 years IMO, untouchable stage presence, fantastic songwriter with an amazing ear (all of those harmonies on Bohemian Rhapsody for example), amazing creativity and artistic vision, great pianist, etc.
If you're talking about vocal talent, dancing skills, songwriting, production, sales and awards, then according to ATRL, it's Katy Perry, but according to most people who listen to pop, it's Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
No one said that the most-watched Superbowl artist is the best musician tho. You, of all people, should know that...
Mariah is probably the most underrated musician. She sings, writes, and produces almost all of her material. She also does her own backup vocals. She has the most intricate and complex vocal layering I've heard of in an artist. She can actually sing an entire choir by herself.
The way she evolved from writing adult contemporary to holiday to pop to r&b to more urban, to gospel with ease is also very commendable.
