Now "I Really Like You" is her "California Gurls", it will surprise everyone and be the Song of the Summer 2015, she'll follow it up with another smash hit like "Teenage Dream", and the album will drop and just like Teenage Dream, everyone will be bopping and know that she's got countless more smashes on the record. They won't all go #1 like TD but they will be massive WW Top 10 hits. Album will be #1 and will sell millions of copies WW.

Both versions of Curiosity slay. IDK how one can say they love one and hate the other since the vocals are exactly the same and the production is only slightly different.

Yeah, I think they've worked together for a few songs because they were working together like six months ago and then just a couple weeks ago she posted more pics of themselves in the studio together.

And it could very well be Josh, too. If they're trying to recreate the success of Call Me Maybe then Josh would probs be a good person to work with. I'm sure they've at least made a few songs together themselves.

Yeah, if they're after Call Me Maybe 2.0 it'll be Josh surely. I know you don't like Taylor Sazare but tbh Carly would totally slay a song like Blank Space. In many ways, Blank Space is like Call Me Maybe and the EP version of Curiosity with its simple melody and production but it's infectiously catchy. Plus the minimalism trend is still really big right now. So going down that line would not only be sticking to her style but it'd fit right in with today's pop sphere too.

Call Me Maybe and Curiosity don't sound anything like Blank Space at all though. There are several songs on Taylor's album that sound like dimestore Carly imitations but that's not one of them. Blank Space is obviously Lorde.

Anyway, while it is my firm belief Carly can slay anything, I would rather she not compromise quality for success. Unlike others, Carly's actually capable of hollowing out her own niche and not jumping on trends while still making good music, and I'd rather she keep it that way.

The original is my fave too, but to be fair it doesn't fit the "Kiss" album. The new version is terrible, but it fits the direction of where "Kiss" was going, which is bubblegum pop.

IDK why but I've never really gotten the Blank Space/Lorde comparisons. BS sounds far too poppy and upbeat to be a Lorde song imo. But that's just me.

My point was that this "current trend" is something that Carly's been doing since 2012 anyway, so even if she were to release a song like that it wouldn't be trend hopping.

Not really the remix of Curiosity is way too generic most of the time i replace the album version with the EP one when i listen to the album.

The OTTB and Kiss comparsion makes kinda sense tho didn't "One Of The Boys" opened with like almost the same numbers as Kiss i mean:

Meh. Pretty sure Josh doesn't write lyrics unless he's the only writer. He said himself in an interview that Carly wrote most of the lyrics and he just composed the music.

Blank Space is literally the same exact song as Team with different instrumentation. Both of them even garnered the same comparisons to Bleeding Love.

ANYWAY. That is certainly more Taylor Swift discussion than this thread ever needed and frankly I'm firmly of the belief that this whole "minimalist trend" that ATRL speaks of is a myth anyway. The charts have definitely shifted away from maximalist dancepop and toward more downtempo music, but very little of it would actually qualify as "minimalist." Retro is certainly in now, which, if Carly's early hints that this album is '90s inspired are true, could be promising.
