Honestly everything is just a mindset. It all started when I got done with junior high, which was the (personally) most disgusting period of my life and I've looked the WORST. I concentrated on my school only and a couple of friends of mine would get into relationships here and there and I had convinced myself that I could only dream of that.
Then after that my best friend who was really, really close friends with a girl in our grade told me that she had had a crush on me since like 5th grade. I kinda paid it dust at that time but a couple days later I realized how much of a confidence boost that was, a girl liked me, the guy who never did the hair, wore mainstream sweatshirts with brand logos on them and had a unibrow.
When I got into high school I told myself F*CK THAT, so I started taking care of myself better. Money I'd get from birthdays/parents/relatives/etc. I would save them and spend them on quality clothes (please not something like American Eagle) or personal care products. NO matter what they say, appearance DOES play a big role in someone approaching you. After I had that on lock I basically stopped giving a **** about whether people liked me or not, it just became a habit to take care of myself, like, it was necessary. And once you stop giving a ****, that's when you know you're more confident, and I SWEAR that's when people lure in.
Good luck
