Pop superstar Leona Lewis has thrown her support behind a worldwide campaign to protect Brentwood's Hopefield Animal Sanctuary.
It has been a whirlwind week for the sanctuary since the Gazette highlighted the threat it faces from Tesco, which owns the land where it is based in Sawyers Hall Lane.
With the supermarket giant announcing plans to save £250m, the future of the sanctuary hangs in the balance as staff wait to hear what the future holds.
But the response from readers and the public has been "amazing," according to Hopefield manager Lianne Angliss.
