Some of those "global" US artists can't even sell 2 million copies around the world when some local artists sell 2 million copies in one year/country

It was funny when
this thread was made to drag Brandy. The OP really had no idea of how much bigger Brandy was than Fergie in the US. Very successful local artist. She was a phenomenon with a big music career, film career and television career. He thought she was some random up and coming artist.
Being global is somewhat overrated. You should see the comments from many Beyonce haters (wasps). The album is nearing 5 million in global sales. But they like to tout their faves like Avril or Shakira as being bigger and more global just because they may sell in more countries. 2 million in one country >>>>>>> barely 700,000 in 30 countries.
I think ATRL likes to down play the US because black artists and their genres, R&B and Hip Hop, are most successful there. It's like they disrespect these artists and genres (until of course an Elvis comes along, takes the art form, and gets all the credit and praise for it and all the sales; most of the world didn't use hip hop before Eminem). They like to brush artists like Ashanti and Nelly off as 'local flops,' even when both eclipsed certain pop girls in their prime. It's funny how artists like Brandy and Ashanti are just as american as Britney and Taylor, but only the latter two could manage to appeal to the rest of the world's taste (even though country, Taylor's original genre, is local to the US).
