This why I dont bother reading threads here anymore the desperation to drag an artist and misinterpret what they say. Its so childish and embarrassing.
I doubt any artist wants fickles fans like some of you lot anyways. Thankfully, Sam doesnt depend on pop kids for his sales.
This. I was really confused when I looked at the replies and saw everyone dragging him, like...?
The clinging to the dresses part just to drag him, though.
Omitting that part, I can see what he's saying.
Can't say I agree though since I like my in-the-moment generic bops designed for quick hits too much.
This. I don't see how what he said was really that bad. Y'all know exactly what he meant, even if he didn't word it in the best way possible. ATRL doing the most as usual.
Maybe he worded it wrong but I get what he's saying. A lot of music nowadays feels disposable, generic, and not quite as grand or timeless as music from the past has been. People like Mariah, Whitney, Celine, and so many others would just stand on stage and wow everyone with their voice. That's kinda missing from people nowadays, other than Adele (and Sam).
Nothing is wrong with big theatrical performances and catchy pop music, that stuff can be great, but I think he's saying that he just wants to bring back more of the timeless kinda simple stuff.
He's talking about people using antics on stage instead of real talent to perform. What Mariah, Whitney, Celine, etc used to do. He has a point. No one just gets on stage and sings nowadays (except for Adele).

Y'all will get mad at anything

I get what he's saying. He's talking about Whitney Houston type performances. It's true, nobody performs like that anymore. Adele, but she's not a powerhouse vocalist and not as glamorous as the old school divas.

I get what he's trying to say tbh. Like Marvin said, he's talking about Whitney/Moo/Celine etc simply stand and let their voice keep you entertained without backup dancers, choreography, slinky leotards, etc. not that those are bad, though.

I get what he's saying. He's talking about the old days when Whitney or Mariah would step on stage and just belt their lives away. I miss those days too, Sam, when vocal ability and talent reigned supreme.
Y'all are sooooo sensitive.

Y'all are so ****ing extra I get what he means but I think it's fine that there is diversity now in the music business. I do agree that we seem to be lacking those huge ass classical voices that just "stand there and sing" but I don't think there's a place in the music business for those rn, which is what he's trying to say I guess. Everything is about the bass drop and the sexy outfits.

Ugh at the overreactions. He's basically saying he wants someone's VOICE to be the star of the show, not theatrics or anything else. Back in the day when you needed talent to be a singer

Exactly!!!!!
Threads like this remind me how ignorant and dramatic ATRL is
Lol, how is this not a sugar-coated way of saying "stop acting like ****s"?
Tired of this budget Boy George
Because right before that he talks about how he loves pop culture and you're the one choosing to fixate on an off the cuff remark about wearing dresses?
Seriously, look at the context. It isn't a criticism on what girls are wearing now, he's trying to create a vision to describe a type of artistry that he feels is missing right now. He isn't even saying that it's the only acceptable musical style, just that he misses it.
