Hey, I'm from the Netherlands and studying here as well.
I'll just tell you about my country since others members are probably better at telling you about their countries
We're a very friendly country, everyone speaks English (older generation knows the basics, younger gen fluently), most people know German as well. We're very acceptive of foreign people and gay's as well (this applies most to 'De Randstad', which is the area within and including the 4 biggest cities of Holland: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht)
Dutch people are really straight forward with their opinions though, they will tell you what they like and don't like (about your work for instance) without thinking how it will effect you, it's more business, less personal.
Studying is not that expensive (from a Dutch perspective, don't know about comparisons with other countries), although they just filed a new law saying it's all a loan and you'll have to pay everything back. You'll get money from the government every month as a student, varying from what your situation is, but because you're from a different country it's gonna be a lot.
