Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't wear an expensive piece of jewellery out on a night out, for the sake of keeping it in good condition.

That's a silly logic though - A no upfront cost iPhone 6 (16GB) contract in the UK is cheapest £38.50 for 24 months. That's £924. Add the iPod Classic old RP of £229 and you get £1153. The cheapest for a 128GB model is £48.50 a month, and thats £1164 altogether. It's not a considerable difference, but you're still getting more space for your money buying an iPod Classic and low spec iPhone, than one high spec iPhone.
I agree about the iPod touch though, it's of course obsolete to the iPhone, just in quality.
