There was no need for such a dramatic apology. But I do agree that he's an idiot for using that term in the first place. It's 2015, everyone is hypersensitive to everything, so it's a must to censor yourself whenever you can, especially if you're a public figure. Sad but true.
What's important is that he didn't mean anything by it, and it was obviously coming from a good place.
