I know "colored" is offensive but I never knew why. Can someone educate me? Is any race other than white considered colored or the term is only applicable to black people?

There was no need for such a dramatic apology. But I do agree that he's an idiot for using that term in the first place. It's 2015, everyone is hypersensitive to everything, so it's a must to censor yourself whenever you can, especially if you're a public figure. Sad but true.

What's important is that he didn't mean anything by it, and it was obviously coming from a good place.

As a black person who has heard black people referred to as colored in 2014, I can tell you term is offensive and I'm glad he apologized. Not sure about UK politics, but here in the US the issue with that term is that is refers to a time when segregation was in place and there were signs saying "colored" and white to differentiate between what things whites and non whites could use eg water fountains.

If you don't know the correct term to use, then it's best not to talk about racial issues. It's better for black people to talk about them imo, since they know what terms to use.

then what the **** are they supposed to be called? if he'd say "black" he'd get even more hate. people need to STOP complaining about nothing and making NON-black people feel bad all the time. what is it with some white & black people being so entitled they have to give black people such victim complexes and excuses?
