Like twice by my dad and they are some of the worst memories I have of him. And no, it wasn't him brutally hitting me, it was spanking. Never by my mother.

- There are tons of better alternatives that don't require hitting your child
- It's illegal in half of Europe (44 countries total), unsurprising that the US is behind as usual and most people who defend it are from the US
- Children spanked are much more likely to have behavioral issues later on, develop depression or anxiety, and abuse drugs or alcohol
There is literally no reason to spank a kid besides the fact that it's quick and easy. If you inflict pain on a fragile being like a child, they will obviously stop whatever behavior that they're doing. In the long term, it's not effective. And saying "I turned out okay" makes no sense because you have no idea what you'd be like had you not been spanked.
