Latina Queen Jennifer Lopez sophomore effort turns 14 today.
Why is this important?
January 23, 2014 jlo released 'JLO' and became the first entertainer to have a #1 album and #1 movie the same week (wedding planner was released january 26 2001)
This era paved the way for global recognition of her stage name Jlo
She launched a hugely successful clothing line of the same name.
She charted her first #1 album in the US selling close to 300k opening week as well as hit singles love don't cost a thing, christina milian written play and #1 remixes im real and ain't it funny
The album went 4x platinum in the US and sold over 8m copies worldwide
Which happens to be her most successful era to date
Praise this amazing era...
Justice for walking on sunshine (the smash that got away)
I'm on break at work so I couldn't upload pics and vids
Another note, she was able to sell 2x platinum before she released her #1 hit remixes but initially rereleased jlo to include the im real remix to boost sales...when she made an attempt to do it again with her ain't it funny remix billboard wouldn't allow it to count so she instead put ain't it funny remix on her j to the lo remix album which was the most successful remix album at the time.
To be a bit messy, this was also the era she had the beef with mariah as the original im real song ( underrated) beat was for a lead song for mariah ls glitter album but Jlo and company took it starting a beef between the two megastars.
Mariah went in on her 'singing' her bragging about getting 8 hours of sleep because she didn't have to write or sing her own songs.
And if we (a mariah track was done before the im real remix) and sounds oddly similar even using the same rent a rapper ja rule.
This era was thoroughly entertaining throughout.
Still should have ended with walking on sunshine though
Queen this era was iconic its were Jennifer infused Fashion into her videos and a look that to this day people still try to create
The era were she became the blueprint for most girls who have empires now
Her movies her music her clothing line (which was humongous every one was wearing it) and her perfume line (which became the most successful fragrance launch ever) happened with the JLo era and she literally dominated everything in way not seen in the industry before.
And apart from britney i dont think any one has dominated like she did
