I've never understood that. Completely disregarding or not caring about race doesn't mean a person can't still be a racist. I think people who are truly above being racist can acknowledge and celebrate differences. A person's race isn't something rude that should be kept silent.
To answer the OP's question, I was prejudiced towards white people. While I don't hold all white people responsible for the many atrocities committed throughout history and currently, I have no interest in making the distinction between racist whites and non-racist whites because my narrative doesn't revolve around making white people comfortable.
I was never racist but I remember when I was like 5 I went to South Africa on vacation with my parents and the first time I saw a black man I was so excited and pointed at him and told my parents "Look he looks like a gorilla " and they told me to shut up because gorilla is pronounced the same in my mother language as it is in english.
Not gonna lie, yes. I was raised by a very racist and traditional conservative family in a bible belt. However, I've seen such a huge evolution in myself on my social views (which includes race), that I'm ALMOST happy I was like that when I was so young so that I can be proud of such a huge improvement in myself.
And it also has to do with what some other member said, about not wanting to be like my family at all because I hate the way they think so much.

I mean as a kid I really didn't give a **** what race anyone was. I never thought it was that important until I got older. I understand the importance of it now but it wasn't a huge factor in my life tbh.
No. I had mainly Asian and white friends growing up and was always surrounded by Hispanics because my siblings have many hispanic friends. I used to make really offensive black jokes all the time though(I'm black). Just goes to show how society can make you self-hating
no tbh Ive never been raised in that type of environment so i grew up thinking everyone is good and should be judged on what they do not on what their skin color is
I was raised right by my parents and family, but as I was growing up, I felt a lot of hate from some black and gypsy kids in my neighbourhood. That got me to a point where I couldn't stand other races.
Now I'm good with everyone as long as everyone is good with me. I couldn't care less if you're black, hispanic, asian, muslim or from another Universe. I feel like everybody deserves a chance of showing their best features

I respect everyone so much now that I fight to make sure any minority has equal and respectful grounds (even though I am kinda like a minority myself (Gay Aruban)
I was never racist, but when I was 6 years old my parents put me in a religious school ran by nuns. One year, a black girl came to the class and for a month or so, the nuns (we had a different nun as a teacher for like every subject) were shading the black student saying things like "um your white shirt is dirty maybe it got stained with something" and pointed to her skin or refered to Africa, the continent, as The Jungle Land.
The thing is, the girl used to not play with everyone else and one day, I had an argument with her just when our parents were picking us up and I repeated an exact phrase some of the nuns said about the girl when no adult was around. I don't remember what I said, but the nuns quickly came and yelled me to apologise to the girl in front of every parent for what I said.
I will never forget that moment. It teached me that believing in race equality was more than saying two nice things and behaving youself in public, it had to deal with what you truly think. Since the nuns were trashing the student so much, I started to think "maybe the nuns are right and the black girl is inferior", but when I realised that they only showed their racist side when no one was around, I knew something was wrong and quickly came to my senses.

Yea its not funny at all. I don't know why people think "black people are gorilla/ape jokes" are a kii. I don't care if he was 5 or not at the time, he probably learned it at home and all the people quoting it laughing are just terrible people as well

They always say kids are the least racist ones of all. That is the first time I've ever heard a child say a racist comment. You can really see who has been influenced by racists or who was raised properly by their parents judging by the posts on here including the quotations

I was 5, was first time in Africa and was fascinated by a black man. You're curious when you're that young, get over it.
Edit: Some of these girls crying about "dds" and jonnys when they do the same thing every time someone mentions Rihanna's domestic abuse case or Britney's mental breakdown
