She wrote 'Daydream' for Demi but HWR thought it was too 'dark' for her.

Actually, it was written as the lead single to 'Under My Skin' but lost out to a vote against 'Don't Tell Me'. Avril hated 'Daydream' and once it lost the vote decided to scrap it altogether. After an argument with Chantel K. (The other writer on the song), she stated in an interview with Bandaids, she would never use the song herself, and admitted not liking the song. It was then passed onto other artists until finally released by Miranda on her 2010 Sparks Fly album.

I remember hearing that Simon Cowell was a huge fan of the song, and felt the song would make a great track for Leona's album. Also Sony had to release a certain amount of singles from them Max Martin sessions, and Avril released 0. So I think they used Leona as a scapegoat to the contract when Avril did not use the song on her album.

Avril officially released "I Will Be" though and it's available as a bonus track on selected editions of TBDT so Leona's version is actually a cover I think.
