Um. I really don't know how I feel about the season. I need to watch it and Coven all over again. They're the bottom of the barrel, but I think I'll say Freak Show has an EDGE over Coven because it brought back the dark mood I love about the series, but then it was kind of really all over the place.
The writing was like SUPER low grade quality multiple times throughout the last few episodes. For that, Coven has an upperhand because despite its messiness, the writing never got so degradable (I'm talking like the ENTIRE moment Chester randomly went psycho, killed Maggie/freaks did nothing then decided to kill Elsa, daFUQ?). They had to be smoking some premium kush when they wrote that episode.
I will say Dandy & Gloria >>>>>>>>>>>>>. Frances remains having the BEST character, yet she is always so underdeveloped/underrated. I need Season 5 with her in the limelight. Not some ******** every now and then moments (Glo/Angel of Death) or half-assed appearances (maid/Myrtle). Jessica leaving will hopefully open the door for her to have a standout role.
Dandy is probably the best male character this show has had since Ben. I'm over Evan's characters, he hasn't been bae since Tate if I'm being honest. Denise's characters have gone downhill since MH (he was a mess then, too) and yeah. I wouldn't mind Zachary coming back, he was convincing as Bloody Face, but Finn slayed him.
Anyway, the finale was modest. It didn't feel super original though, reminding me of elements from Seven Wonders. I'd put it last. Madness > Seven Wonders > Afterbirth > Curtain, tbh.

But sometimes you can figure it out for yourself and really the ending of some plot lines could be superboring, so why show it

Wow what a sad episode.
The massacre part was like a sad nightmare. Same with the marriage.
Elsas Story was also tragic.
Like she always wanted to be famous, then she's famous and still isn't happy.
Massimo saying ''My dream comes to late'' and Elsa then deciding to get killed.
The last scene
Overall the best season, although something was missing, especially in the finale.

While MH is the second best season, its finale was very cliche and did nothing for me. That's exactly how I feel about Curtain Call. Then it tried to borrow some good elements from last season's finale and it didn't work like it did then.
Meanwhile, Seven Wonders was entertaining. It gave me Misty's death which I hated and teared up to, but it didn't make me hate it like X/O/X/O's apparent dismissal of the season(s) when Emma dies. I appreciated it, just wish she had more screen time. It exposed me to Fleetwood Mac's flawless discography and made me appreciate Stevie's contribution to the show. Fiona's ending was superb. It was a great finale to a busted up season compared to Flawlesslum.

They could have given Gloria one last appearance though As an imagenary conversation with Dandy
Maybe right before his rampage, or when he marries the twins (she could have told him it was dangerous)
But I can understand if Frances was busy with 2 other film project. At least she got 8 episodes

Would you really care about some cop getting caught or getting 1m $ from Dandy and leaving. I know I wouldn't

Season finale sucked.
Hated to see all the freaks die and Elsa so unhappy after finally making it to Hollywood tho.
I still place Coven above this.

Something was missing from the finale - but I'm happy for Jimmy and the twins.

It's the writers' jobs to OPEN, WRITE and FINISH a plot line. If an arc is so boring, they shouldn't include it to begin with.
Like, literally where was Stanley? They kept him alive after the mutilation gor Dandy to find him later, but what happened to him? He wasn't among the bodies of Dandy's kills, so...
Anyway, I was pressed about Emma dying again, but what pissed me off was the terrible writing in the past 3 episodes, which I noticed especially in Maggie'a death. I didn't start hating just for the FACT that she died.

Afterbirth is only good for Ben's hanging and the kid killing the nanny at the end. The rest was an overdramatized mess. I mean Birth >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Afterbirth.

i loved the finale. the massacre was pretty well done and i actually was shocked the moment paul dropped like a rock. it made me realize out of the remaining freaks i only cared about bette, eve, and desiree. i screamed when eve got shot
seeing ma petite in the end again was super nice. she's so cute and it's nice to see her happy. i do think the ending was more of a goodbye to jessica though, but it was nice to see everything kinda worked out well.
asylum > murder house >>> freakshow >>>>>>> coven

American Horror Story is one of the very few TV shows that can really entertain me and keep me on the edge of my seat most of the time. It has something special and that's the combination of so many different techniques and ways of storytelling that are somehow made to work well together. Now that Freakshow has ended, it's a good idea to post this and reflect on the whole season and compare it to the previous ones.
The first season - Murderhouse was a great beginning. It was something that was almost never seen before at that time - an entertaining horror series that can be both very dark and spooky and very accessible to the general public, at the same time. The story was absolutely great and all those little sub-plots that were going on at the same time were interesting. It also had the most classic-horror atmosphere. Most of the characters were really well-played and left us waiting for more.
Asylum is my favorite season. It was MIND-BLOWING! All of the characters were developed in the best possible way. The atmosphere was so dark and gloomy. The tension was so high at certain points and it was entertaining from the first second to the last one. All of the sub-plots were so different from each other and yet they all worked within the same movie, within the same context. The alien abductions. The religion games. The racism. The historic situation and background. The great Jessica Lange, whose character went through such dramatic changes. The amazing Sarah Paulson, who deserved an EMMY for her performance. A flawless masterpiece - that's what Asylum is!
Coven was very different from what I expected. It was way too campy and light. Yet it still entertained me. It's my least favorite season but I still find it better than most TV series. Ryan showed a great sense of humor as a director there. And Jessica Lange was epic - as always!
And now let's get to the Freakshow. I found it really good. I saw most of you complain about being disappointed but I thought it was really satisfying and way darker than Coven. In fact, the atmosphere reminded mostly of Asylum - maybe because Ryan used some similar directing techniques and because both seasons were set back at the same part of the century. For me, Freakshow combined everything I've learned to expect from American Horror Story. There was enough horror - we saw some of the most gruesome deaths in AHS' history, Ryan played with so many people's phobias - clowns, dolls. There was a great touch of Hollywood entertainment - with all the songs (c'mon, who expected that we would hear David Bowie, Lana Del Rey and Nirvana in AHS one day?). There was the humor of Coven, but way more balanced. There was the great emotion that brought tears to our eyes - in the 'Orphans' episode, in the last minutes of the 'Curtain Call' episode. I think most of you didn't like it to some point because there were too many characters and each one of us had different favorite ones. And of course, some would be main characters, and some not so. But I thought, from the middle of the season on, most of them were well-developed and we really grew to love them. Dandy was one of the best villains - he really got under my skin sometimes, he was so sadistic. And Jessica Lange's character was somehow similar to the ones she played before, but way more naive and suprising.
Overall, for me:
Asylum > Freakshow > Murder House> Coven

Asylum>Murder House=Coven>Freakshow
All 4 seasons remained very entertaining but Freakshow was just all over the place and it seemed like it was missing something

I enjoyed the finale no matter what. Better than Seven Wonders for sure.
I will miss Jessica if it was really her last season.
