Hi everyone!

I'm flying to Albania tomorrow, in Tirana specifically...(for sentimental reasons lol).

I'm from Italy (Rome) and this would be the first time for me in Albania.

Do you know if the city is somewhat safe?
(Will I be robbed and stabbed before I get to my hotel?)

I heard albanians are very kind people..but I'm still kinda scared.
(I'm gay. Not the queerest gay in the world but...I guess kissing men in public is out of the question..right?)

Let me know if I'm just talking nonesense or nah, please!

Albania has the highest homicide rate in Southern Europe.

Still about 100 times lower than the United States...

In Rome I kiss guys in public all the time. It's like if you don't care, people don't care.
But yeah..I won't kiss them in dangerous parts of the city, obviously.

i think it's safe but the the northern part of Albania is a mess . Even government doesn't completely control that part and i heard stories from ppl who traveled by car from Croatia that they had to pay just to cross the border

there is no boarder between Croatia and Albania though.

I've never been there,but from what I heard (from an albanian friend) the city is quite safe during the day.

i know but if you're traveling by car or bus from Croatia you just pass Montenegro in few hours and you are on the south Montenegrin and northen - Albanian boarder

Some advice:

-don't go by car
-don't show anybody that you're gay
-don't show anybody that you have lots of money
-don't go out late at night (evening like 9-10 pm-ish should be fine, not later)
-book a hotel which looks safe and has good reviews

It's also a tad bit over-exagerated. It doesn't mean that these things will happen, nobody guarantees that they wont tho.
But don't worry. I have relatives who went there and had a great time without any of those things happening.
