I think it's only bad when other people mock other cultures or misunderstand them, like that Chinese Food video where the guy is speaking some random language at the beginning and the girls dress as geishas at the end. Slay Alison Gold.

It's just the dumbest concept ever. If I dress as a native it's not because I'm making fun of them. And it's the same for everyone else I think.

Like mentioned by many native Americans the headdress commonly worn by people mimicking them via costumes is a sacred thing only for the highest person in the tribe. To wear a sacred garmet as a costume is wrong and demeans it as a play thing.

Well nothing wrong with appreciating culture. However if you're gonna wear things from other cultures you need to be knowledgeable in it.

For example what Katy's wearing. The kimono is used for sacred and special events, like weddings, tea ceremonies, funerals, etc in japanese culture.

Her parading around onstage takes away the cultural significance of what it means and de-culturizes such a sacred piece of fabric.

She can wear it, but in the right context like the culture suggests.

Dressing up as a native is offensive because their culture is not a cute lil costume you can wear on Halloween or any day for that matter. Including their history as well, that just makes it worse.
