Not all anime is for 12 years old. No 12 years old could or should watch the later parts of Hunter x Hunter for example. Not to mention all of the seinen anime.
Except there are animes that are targeted for an adult audience and is not meant for kids...
Western culture kinda has to get rid of this idea that cartoons can only be meant for kids. Some animes and shows like Korra have done things that "Adult shows" have not or never done.
