Occasionally the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) give special achievement awards to artist for their contributions to music as well as exceptional success in their respective genre.
With well-deserved Artist of the Decade award for Mariah Carey, Icon awards (Neil Diamond, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez), well-deserved Millennium Award for Whitney and Beyonce was honored as well, well-deserved Artist achievement awards for Madonna, Cher, Destiny's child and Janet, well-deserved recognitions such as Billboard Century award and Billboard Spolight awards as well as a category for Milestone award given to two artists...
Should Britney Spears be the next to receive a Billboard Achievement recognition award?
Britney is currently doing shows at her successful residency in Vegas. The new queen of Vegas will have wrapped up her 8th leg of the residency on May 20, 2015. Usually BBMAs are towards the end of May right before the Memorial Day Weekend.
Note: Rumour has it (see what I did there) that Adele might be pushing her album back to Q4 2015. Also, there are rumors of a Q2 release then a surprise release etc. Although the highest first week debut sales for a female is only one of Britney's many accolades, records and successful achievements, it seems probable that Britney's Oops...I did it again sales record will remain intact past May 2015 secure 15 solid years and 16 technical years.
Britney could recognize her successful achievements over her 17 year plus career at this years Billboard Music Awards.
Do you agree?
If you disagree, which artist(s) do you think should be recognized and for what reason(s)?
Remember Billboard Music Awards are about sales/stats.
Examples of artists receiving achievement awards for impressive success, accolades and sales/stats.
She is more deserving than Beyonce, Katy, J. Lo, Janet and Cher of a special Billboard award, though.
Neither did Stevie Wonder, Cher or Madonna but they still received their awards.
All she needs to do is attend and accept the award.
Now with rumors of an Iggy ft song released in the next month or do, the giorgio moroder (sp) single Q2 single and possibly new music/album the first half of the year it would also be strategic timing for her next era.
No tbh , and not because she hasn't done enough ( she has achieved a LOT ) but because she is kinda irrelevant this decade.....it would be better if she was recognized in 2010 or something
Well clearly Bilboard doesn't think about it that way.
Yeah I'm not trying to start a war and i thought their tribute was great for her considering they brought in artist to talk about her and her mom but what was missing mostly were her stats/accolades that are represented moreso in other artists' achievement segments in the videos I stated above.
I think Britney has alot of accolades and achievements that can be created in a montage for Billboard but if you don't then fair enough
Who would you like to see given an achievement award next?

I would have preferred 2013 as it marked her 15 years in the game but Cher received hers in 2001 when her last major hit was in 99' so...if Britney were to score another hit...she has a couple of songs coming out in the top half of 2015 (allegedly)...the timing would be impeccable. IMO.

I guess Vegas took a big risk giving a residency to an irrelevant pop star.

Artist achievements awards are not limited to the last 10 years of the artist's career, it fully covers the artist's career so you're not making any sense.

She debuted a single at #1 in 2011, an album at #1 in 2011, has two 3M selling singles, has sold 2M albums, has grossed over $50M on tour in the U.S., has sold over 10M singles, etc.
She obviously deserves it for her album sales and #1 singles debut, but I'm not sure the award matters after J Lo received it. I love J Lo, she's a sweetheart and she has bops, but she's clearly not on a "lifetime achievement" level as an artist.
