I'm not saying all of daytime tv. I'm talking more of the talk shows. In recent years there have been many people who have had talk shows only for them to get cancelled after maybe 1 or 2 seasons. Queen Latifah tried her second attempt only to get cancelled last November as did Ricki Lake in 2013. Heck even Arsenio Hall (though late night) tried again and just didn't work out. Also folks like Katie Couric, Anderson, Bethenny, Jeff Probst, Kris Jenner, and countless others failed miserably. The only ones that are still on are of course The View, Ellen, The Talk, Wendy Williams, Steve Harvey, Meredith Viera, and The Real (both which I don't see lasting long). Jerry Springer and Maury have been going strong since the early 90s but they're "trash tv" which is what alot of people want to see. So do you feel that the whole aspect of daytime television talk shows is flying out the window and sort of doesn't compare to the 90s when everyone was dominating?

No. Ellen, The Real and The View stay winning. It's just awful shows like Queen Latifah's can't stay around long.

Most daytime television is trash, and it's so inconvenient. People have jobs and school and no one has time to sit down and watch a talk show while they're getting ready for the day.
People mainly watch the news in the morning if they choose to watch TV at that time.

I have to work very early mornings to the afternoon at my job two days a week and business is so slow so i turn on the talk shows like live with kelly and michael, the view, wendy williams, GMA etc to pass the time. I cant imagine anyone besides housewives actually sitting down and watching these shows everyday.

It must have something to do with originality.

You may be missing the obvious. Oprah built her following while cable TV and internet media were in their infancy. There weren't as many options or channels for people to consume. This is why day time soap operas are a dying breed. The Oprah show became the holy grail for promotion to middle and upper America. It became very prestigious to grace her stage or sit in one her guest chairs.
Wendy is trash TV. She attracts the same crowd as Jerry and Maury. The View and The Talk have higher profile guests than Wendy Williams. Ellen is the closest thing to Oprah because, like Oprah, big name talent and A-list stars want to be on her show.
I don't see the death of original day time programming on network tv as a bad thing. A lot of the content during those hours is mindless dribble. Who is actually upset that Kris Jenner's show flopped? Like, that to me is a triumph and gives me hope for humanity.

I think that in 10 years, the entire daytime block that's currently being used by ABC, CBS, and NBC will end up becoming local news (maybe even a 30-minute national news program) and reruns. 3/4 pm will either be the same or will be reserved for select talk shows.
Talk shows are what's keeping daytime TV alive right now. If it wasn't for them, daytime TV would almost be dead. CBS is the only US network with mostly non-talk daytime programming, with Let's Make A Deal, The Price is Right, The Young & the Restless, and The Bold & The Beautiful taking up 10-2 pm (or 11-2 and 3-4). ABC has 2 talk shows (The View and The Chew) and one soap (General Hospital). NBC has literally one show (Days of our Lives) and doesn't promote it as NBC Daytime anymore. Everything else during daytime is syndicated, aside The Bill Cunningham Show on The CW. Fox never even had a daytime lineup.

I remember daytime TV was all about the soaps. You had like 15 of them at one point.

The only talk shows that stick around are the non-boring ones that have something new to offer. The random Oprah wannabees don't last long b/c they are generic without a gimmick.
