Catalog sales are incredibly important. Just look at Mariah and Metallica. Mariah had much, much bigger albums but crappy catalog sales. Metallica came at her like a dark horse and snatched her spot (and are still moving). Britney doesn't have the catalog sales of Metallica but she does have better catalog sales than Taylor already (which is a mess).
Taylor will most likely pass her on NSS at this rate but I don't see her coming for Britney overall. She'd need at least 13.5M albums and Britney is planning on continuing to release.

LOL TEA and SEA don't negate the drop in album sales. What Taylor is doing and has been doing for the last 8 years in the US is unprecedented, Britney's 2 years of similar success does not compare.
Each of Taylor's albums are #1 for their years (except SN which is #2). Britney doesn't even have 1 album that is at #1. And only her first 2 had HUGE success.
You can manipulate numbers all you want but the proof is right in front of you.

Yes they do. Not every year has to be on par with the peak of album sales. Despite music sales falling, the 2010s are still above all of the 50s, 60s and 70s (i.e. half of all recorded music sales) and some years in the 80s, 90s and 00s.
None of Taylor's albums went against the competition Britney did (the minute she did, she floundered with Adele) and those numbers are inaccurate. Her 2006 release did less than the High School Musical soundtrack, Stadium Arcadium by Red Hot Chili Peppers, FSLS by Justin Timberlake, Back to Black by Amy Winehouse, etc. Her 2008 Fearless did less than The Fame by Lady Gaga, Viva La Vida by Coldplay, SN was also below My Worlds by Justin Bieber and possibly Need You Now by Lady Antebellum. Red and 1989 were the only releases that were the biggest of their release year, tbh.
Britney, ITZ, GH:MP and Circus were all great successes and FF was a moderate success. GH:MP is the best catalog seller of its year. As per Mediatraffic: Britney is #4 for 2001 (by only 2M) excluding its amazing Asian sales. ITZ is #10. GH:MP is #14 and still shifting units. You all really underestimate Britney.

Why is Jennifer's post reported? It's true. Taylor will pass Britney in the US in actual album sales. Let it be. Britney still has the upper hand against every post-1999 debuting female WW unless Adele pulls some unholy slayage with her next album and skyrockets to like 60M+ units WW or something.

I'll post in ATRL HQ to try and get it reversed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with discussing either of their album sales. It's the point of the receipts threads! And Adele is not the star we should worry about. Taylor and Rihanna are at 51M albums/TEAs/SEAs and 54M albums/TEAs/SEAs, respectively, and still in their 20s. They likely won't come for Britney's 97M albums/TEAs/SEAs but I get excited by the notion of competition. I miss when our fanbase actually used to do something about it
