Yup. TIHWD would have been a top 10 hit with radio support. I mean it's no We Can't Stop (3x plat with a 60m AI peak), but it managed to do decently for a fifth single with Madonna sized airplay. I just hope Katy doesn't try to replicate the success of a song in the future like she did with Birthday and International Smile (It's my guilty pleasure but it still screams Teenage Dream reject). Just no more guilty pleasures from Katy from now on.
And that's EXACTLY what I've been saying all along. All of those "Self-aware" praise reviews she got at the beginning of the era were detrimental to her actual self-awareness. Thank God she's not that critically acclaimed, or we would have it worse.
I know she has it in her to achieve great things in the future, that's why I never once said she's over.

Agreed with everything.
And thank God that her team doesn't overhype everything. I couldn't handle if she ever pulls a Gaga

Yes, I agree, but let's not forget that Katy plays the dark role better than anyone, Circle the Drain, Wide Awake in the music videos, too. She's not bubblegum pop. A bubblegum pop isn't invited at the Beatles anniversary or the White House or the Super Bowl. Ofc she offers incredible joy to people, another factor why I personally love her and stan for her. This is her thing. But it's not only that.

CG to Roar was bubblegum pop, though
And I feel like the music industry doesn't see her like the brainless-talentless popstar that the GP sees (thank to herself!!) and sees her potential. That's pretty much why she's somewhat respected but still Grammy-less and underacclaimed.
