Not everyone using Will Smith as an argument to show diversity sells.
If you recall Hitch, they hired Eva Mendes to be his lover for a reason. They wouldn't take a chance on a black actress because it would turn into a 'black movie' and alienate non-black audiences [and a white actress paired with a black man would alienate audiences too]. This is the story behind other Will Smith movies too. People are not open to diversity even though most will tell you they are!
P.S. The fact that every response is only about blacks in Hollywood even though Jessica Chastain commented on all all sexism, racism, mysogyny and other agendas shows my point. People are not interested in diversity unless it's related to them.

She is right but ultimately if enough people were ready to pay to see a movie starring a black guy, they would make it. It's not in their interests as a company to ignore demand. Although I agree that studios should be doing more to encourage diversity, like "blind" casting, the bigger problem lies with the movie-going-audiences i.e. everybody.

I basically said that in another thread and people were disagreeing with me. They told me they don't care what race the actors in movies are... so I asked them would you go out to see Priyanka Chopra lead the next X-men movie? I got the same answer saying that race doesn't matter, but someone made a topic about ABC creating a TV show for Priyanka and no one cared. That's the problem with diversity selling. No one cares so it doesn't work.

So? Hispanics are not a race and it's not like minorities will watch any movie led by minorities just because they're minorities. Everyone is attracted to movies led by white male actors. They have neutral appeal.

If it's a major Hollywood movie, the numbers the Top 5 are getting...
