Charlie Hebdo (French pronunciation: [ʃaʁli ɛbˈdo]; French for Charlie Weekly) is a French satirical weekly magazine,[3] featuring cartoons, reports, polemics, and jokes. Irreverent and stridently non-conformist in tone, the publication describes itself as
"strongly anti-racist"[4]
and left-wing, publishing articles on the extreme right, religion (Catholicism, Islam, Judaism), politics, culture, etc. According to its former editor Stéphane Charbonnier ("Charb"), the magazine's editorial viewpoint reflects "all components of left wing pluralism, and even abstainers"
3 million copies of the little magazine have been printed this week. (because of the high demand of course) They defend Madonna here, she's the only artist being featured in this (what will be) unforgettable and forever talked about issue. This is NOT america. it's france. just because they portray a holy figure it doesn't mean they hate them or even mock them, really. it's satire. sure, some people may not like it, but they mock EVERYONE. they're non conformist (and true rebel hearts, if you will) because they use their art to basically say, hey.. don't take it all so seriously, it's "just" a cartoon. it's not like it's a big magazine or newspaper, their audience is not the every day joe but rather more alternative and left wing folk or artists who see things in a more light hearted way. there are other magazines in europe like it. don't take it so personally.
