This was also the case for Canada.

I'm not sure about IBeMe's circle of friends, but Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon etc. were far more popular than Inuyasha was. Merchandise for the shows were
overflowing in stores! Granted, the former shows didn't really embrace Japanese culture as much as Inuyasha and Naruto; they were just seen as normal cartoons and I doubt most people even realized they were from Japan while watching them, especially since some of them made efforts to change certain stuff (such as sushi) to be more western (like hamburgers).
People that watched Inuyasha were tyically more interested in Japanese culture and other animes, while people interested in Pokemon seemed a lot more casual and only aware of a particular grouping. Of course, that's not true for everyone that watched these shows, but it was for most of us.
