Let's take Madonna's very formulaic dance debut and compare that to Erotica, RoL, Music, etc. Let's take Rihanna's first records and compare that to Rated R, or any of her albums starting with GGGB actually. Just because an artist sticks to a formula that's easy for them for their first album doesn't mean they're not going anywhere.
