I think they want QNX from Blackberry’s portfolio. They are big in Automotive; Ford recently replaced their Sync 2.0 with QNX Sync 3.0 for all models 2015 and beyond. QNX is also big in Medical.

It says Blackberry has not talked to Samsung about their offer, it could easily mean they're still considering, didn't consider it at all, or their statement was just PR so people don't jump to conclusions

Samsung is far more successful than Blackberry, so the whole "if you can't beat em, buy em" makes no sense.

If I was Samsung, Google, or even Apple: this sale would be a no-brainer. All of RIM's patents and their goverment-class security encryption (which would make an excellent selling point for businesses/corporations) are enough to justify that price.

This could give Samsung some serious leverage over Apple.

Apple already has end to end encryption in iOS 8. Apple can't even get the data off the phone with a warrant. The data in iCloud is encrypted but you still need a strong password as so many celebrities found out last year.
