So homophobia seems very prevalent in African countries and people are quick to demonize the citizens of these countries, but isn't it true that a lot of it is the fault of white Christian missionaries?
White Christians went over to Africa to "spread the word of God" and "enlighten" people. A lot of the colonization of Africa was done by Christians. They spread the belief that homophobia is a "sin" and wrong and this is what was taught to the African people and then passed onto the younger generations as they grew up. So surely a large part of the blame should lie with them?
I do agree that people should also be able to make up their own minds in this day and age and should know right from wrong - regardless of what they may have been taught bought up - so I'm not excusing the homophobic actions of these people, but what I'm trying to ask is it 100% their responsibility or should the west share a bit of the blame?
Also I'm white before anyone starts drama, it's just a question that I was thinking about.

This is the Christian white equivalent of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists, only difference is that these people are not the ones killing for their ideologies but have other people do it for them.

In Uganda it is specifically as he described. They went and spread propaganda that gay people were going to rape their children, have mental issues, blah blah blah. They've lied and said that Gay people called the holocaust... it's shameless.
Yeah it's sad because alot of them describe homosexuality, especially in sub saharan countries, as a white person's disease despite the fact that their is factual evidence of homosexuality before Africa was colonized by Europe.

AND they can do tests (which are illegal in other countries not to mention wrong and stupid) to determine wether or not someone has been f***ed before or not!
This summer in Egypt police used fake Grindr profiles to catch gay guys. And last month a so called journalist conspired with the egyptian police to catch more than 50 men in a bath house (some were fathers and husbands in the DL). She exposed them and put them in jail. I watched only 1 minute of the show cause it was so sickening and she a banner was up on the screen that said "Gay sex directly causes AIDS"...

That is disgusting, I agree. The laws in some places are ridiculous .
However the fathers and husbands bit is not cute . I don't agree with that even if someone is gay. Cheating is wrong.
Before colonization and Christianity many of these places like Africa and India had a positive view on homosexuality. In Africa it was seen as something divine.
It's kinda similar to the views on homosexuality held by many native tribes in the US and Canada and how accepting they are.

Also, aren't many of the anti-gay laws in former colonized countries (from all over the world, not just Africa) derived from colonial legal codes from UK?
Homophobia is rampant throughout this entire world and it will always be like that. Thats why Im so thankful to be a gay man in America, where we dont get killed in the street for simply being suspected of being involved in homosexual activity.
It's 100% the fault of Christian missionaries and European powers that conquered the region. Exact same scenario in Latin America. Many of those cultures, before the arrival of the Europeans, had no problem whatsoever with relationships outside of a man-woman binary. Christianity, along with other organized religions, has been the driving force for homophobia as we know it today.

Christian fundamentalist groups funnel money into countries like Uganda and exert political pressure so that they will pass brutal anti-gay laws. It's terrorism, but of a more insidious kind than shooting up people.
