Meghan had a humongous hit. Ariana is kind of missing her defining hit like that. Hopefully she pulls a Rih and gets it with her third album.

Months of holiday pre-order? Also, I think the fact so much of Ariana's album is R&B has hindered her a little.

Ari's had hits, but I don't think she's had her defining iconic smash hit yet.

Meghan has that Katy-like aura around her, radio eats her up, young girls and adults buy her music

Can you not? Meghan scored the biggest hit of the year and there are literally no major album releases around it.

Exactly. All About the Base and Lip are Moving (like Roar and Firework) can be played twice in the same hour with no complaints. Multi format, easily accessible and ear candy that many eat up or are too unbothered to turn off.

Ariana has something going for her but its a different market that doesn't have as wide of a margin. No need for comparison though, they're very different.

Wasn't Meghan's EP up for MONTHS on pre-order? Especially during holiday periods and a #1 song?

Gotye hasn't released an album since STIYTK though.

Also Meghan has had tons of promo, so let's not act like Ariana did so much more than her.

My Everything is Ariana's A Girl Like Me era, she has 3 top 10 hits, she's more global compared to last era and she's had a lot of exposure, but it still hasn't been enough to make people buy her album.

Sometimes, less is more. Maybe Ariana's label went a bit heavy-handed with the pre-album promo. Besides, both of Meghan's radio singles were bigger than both of Ariana's radio singles (both had two pre-album singles; 3 for Ari if you count Bang Bang).
