If she works with the right people, she could easily make a blend of her personal music (GL, some of AL) with pop music. Look at what Max did for Taylor on Red, he was able to capture her sound and put it into pop songs (22, WANEGBT) that didn't stick out too much. Unfortunately for Avril, the pop songs on GL and AL stuck out like a sore thumb. As great as they are, they just messed up the flow of the albums.
I hope she has a really clear sense of direction for her next record. She's capable of having a big comeback I believe, as long as she collaborates with the right people.
I'd love an album full of tripod songs! Her, Chad and David made a really awesome team and it's thanks to them we have the masterpiece that is Give You What You Like. OR, if she's going to do Pop - work with a solid producer and create a coherent pop album with an established sound (like she did with TBDT or what Taylor did with 1989).

In my opinion, GL (sans WTH and Smile) was quite cohesive even though it was "softer" than previous albums. However, AL wasn't cohesive but "all over the place", and that never convinced her fans.
I agree she should keep working the Tripod, and keep writing by herself like she's done last two albums. Also for the "pop songs", she should find a good balance and put a more mature spin to it. Stop with the "mother****ing princess" image and show she's a 30 year-old woman. And for a change, start the era with ballad or slower song, because she always starts with upbeat songs (or mid-tempo, at best) and lately being bratty and immature.
About what that article said about her ALREADY working on the next album, I would take it with a grain of salt. Yes, she's been writing some songs here and there, and she's releasing Fly "soon", but that doesn't she's been in "studio mode". Nevertheless, I think that she will start to work on it in some months, when's she finally healthy and recovered from her illness. Also, I hope she tell us what happened and perhaps use it as inspiration for some song(s).
